Things To Do

Mathews County is the second smallest rural county in Virginia with just 86 square miles and has more than 217 miles of shoreline. The county is perhaps best know for its miles of waterfront sites, with a number of public, state-maintained beaches. There are ample opportunities for recreational fishing, boating, and beach activities. And with the Callis House Inn conveniently located on Main Street, the town's popular restaurants and shops are just a few minutes walk away.

Mathews County has become a bedroom community for the Hampton Roads area, a haven for retirees, and an increasingly popular tourist destination. Residents and tourists partake in fishing, boating, bird watching, kayaking, beach lounging, bicycling, and other recreational opportunities.
